Physics majors Casey Kuhns, Adam Wilson, and Physics professor Dr. Matt Semak have earned a grant and are launching a robotics class geared to non-science students next semester.

Dr. Courtney Willis received an American Association of Physics Teachers Distinguished Service Citation. Established in 1953, the Distinguished Service Citations are presented to members in recognition of their exceptional contributions to physics teaching.

The American Institute of Physics recently identified the Physics program at UNC as being among the 35 U.S. undergraduate-only physics departments producing the largest number of bachelor's degrees from 2003-2005. We achieved the second largest percentage increase in degrees conferred from 1997-1999 to 2003-2005. 

Physics faculty member Dr. Ruwang Sung was recognized as the UNC International Person of the Year for her work in creating a study abroad program in China. Dr. Sung taught "Energy and the Environment" at Hangzhou Dianzi University in summer 2007.  

Physics faculty member Dr. Matthew Semak was recognized for teaching excellence by the College of Natural and Health Sciences in 2007. 

Undergraduate physics major Sarah Nowak was awarded a NASA Summer Internship. She will spend part of summer 2008 at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.
